Quillia’s Musings
Session One: Meeting in the Westermarck

Sitting on the bank of the Thunder River while everyone took some time to rest and refresh, Quillia looks around at the unusual group of adventurers she has chosen to travel amongst. Years of soldiering have perhaps made it more difficult for her to adjust to traveling in such a haphazard manner but it did promise to make her life more interesting. “That is what she wanted wasn’t it?” she shrugged to herself. Watching the little man splashing around frantically in the river with hopes of catching their midday meal she shook her head. Food seemed to be a driving force for the young thief. She supposed it was probably how he developed his skills wandering through the markets “gathering” his meals. The way Sly was slashing the water with that sword it was likely they would all be eating trail rations instead today. If nothing else this little man promised to be amusing. It seemed she was not the only one to think so. She could hear the barbarian laughing at Sly’s efforts as well. It was the first time she had seen Bjorn smile since they’d met, of course one could not expect joviality from a man with a tale such as his. Who were these “Ash People”, she had never heard of such a race? Looking over his way she wondered how he was able to manage in battle. He certainly looked impressive enough but the man was practically naked! It seemed incredibly savage and uncivilized but she supposed if he managed to get this far from home alive he must have some skill with his sword. Quillia started searching through her packs for her rations, she had completely given up on the idea of fish for lunch. While she ate her attention was drawn to the knight sitting in the shade of a large tree. Now there was a fine suit of armor and likely why he’d chosen the shady area. He seemed rather reserved and although she considered heading over to speak with him, she thought the better of it and stayed put. She never cared much for the ways of nobility; her family had spent enough time amongst then when she was a child and it left terribly unimpressed. Mind you the idea of such wealth had it’s appeal but she would earn her own way in the world and not have it handed to her. Of course she was not foolish enough to presume all nobles were the same, she was not that short-sighted. Valr did seem to have his own agenda and had even passed up the bounty offered by the Captain of the fort. The fact that he managed to communicate with all of them in their own language did indicate that he was not as “light-headed” as most of the nobility she had met. She supposed time would tell whether he had earned that knight’s title or paid for it with his family’s gold! Thinking that they had wasted enough time sitting in the sun she headed over towards Nande, who also seemed to be getting restless. Now here was an amazing looking warrior. Never in her wildest dreams could Quillia hope to achieve such physical perfection. This woman was not only taller than any female (or male for that matter) that Quillia had ever encountered but every movement she made expressed a strength and fluidity that any fighter would envy. Quillia had already decided to make it her own personal mission to study the ways of this woman and perhaps be able to learn a thing or two from her. Of course Nande’s strange tongue was beyond her understanding but perhaps she could convince the knight to help her with a few words here and there. That was for another day though, for now she would concentrate on the journey before her. |
