Introduction

In 1278 King Vilerus of Aquilonia declared the area west of the Bossonian Marches Aquilonian territory. The Westermarck as it’s called was divided into 4 territories; Oriskonie to the north, Conawaga, Schohira, and Thandara to the far south.

The year is now 1279 and the territories have grown. The Barons who were granted control over the lands have opened them to any who can take and hold them. Each Territory has established a capitol “city” though in truth the cities are no more then medium sized villages. The Aquilonian army has established a series of forts along the east bank of the wild Thunder River. The fort garrisons guard against attack from across the river and patrol the wilds between the new frontier homesteads. But in general they do not cross the Thunder.

King Vilerus died in the summer of 1278. His Nephew King Numedides has maintained the policy of westward expansion and has offered a royal bounty of 20 silver pieces per savage pict head delivered to any frontier fort along the Thunder river. A bounty is also being paid to any scouts that can bring back information on the location of Pict villages. Knowledge much sought after by the generals tasked with invading the lands beyond the Thunder.

Free company and adventures for hire are beginning to flock to the Westermarck with dreams of easy silver in their heads. But the lands beyond the Thunder are wild and untamed fully 3 of 5 who venture beyond the river fail to ever return, a fact that is often over looked by the young mercenaries and adventures who are seeking their fortunes.

We turn our attention now to Fort Gekada. A small frontier fort in western Conawaga almost directly across from the head waters of north creek. An unlikely band of men and woman, each with their own agenda and stories meet for the first time…
